Conserve Electricity

Conserve Energy and Electricity in November

The government is dedicating a day in November to conserve electricity, and it will be holding events to show people how to conserve electricity.

This one day event will help further lower the electricity demand on the grid and the plan forms part of government's target to reach a 10 percent electricity reduction of 3000 MW.

In a statement released by the South African Presidency, the Deputy President said the participants in the meeting were concerned that with the country going into the summer season, many people did not realize how much air conditioning homes, hospitality, commercial enterprises and homes used electricity

The Deputy President has urged all South Africans to conserve electricity, and will be showing them how to do this.

In early July, Industry and Trade Minister Mandisi Mpahlwa announced that while many electricity targets were being met, the South African public still is lagging behind industry in terms of its ability to conserve and reduce its electricity demands.
